[i]squeakyramone posting in [i]literaryquotes: The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley

I am having a really hard time putting this book down. I love it! Here are two different passages:

Passage 1:
"What wise God would consign a man to Hell for ignorance, instead of teaching him better in the afterlife?"

Passage 2:
Taliesin said gently, "Father Patricius, you would do a great disservice to the people of this land if you close their sacred well. It is a gift from God--"
"It is a part of pagan worship." The eyes of the Archbishop glowed with the austere fire of the fanatic.
"It comes from God," the old Druid insisted, "because there is nothing in this universe which doesn't come from God, and simple people need simple signs and symbols. If they worship God in the waters which flow from his bounty, how is that evil?"
"God cannot be worshipped in symbols which are made by man--"
"There you are in total agreement with me, my brother," said the Merlin, "for a part of the Druid wisdom lies in the saying that God, who is beyond all, cannot be worshipped in any dwelling made by human hands, but only under his own sky. And yet you build churches and deck them richly with gold and silver. Wherefore, then, is the evil in drinking from the sacred springs which God has made and blessed with vision and healing?"

[i]fairyprincess0 posting in [i]baby_names: What Do You Think?

I am due to have my 2nd little boy on Aug 7th.

My first son's name is Brandon Cole.

This one will be Andrew, we know that for sure.
we don't know about a middle name tho. We are thinking either Andrew Shannon or Andrew Edward.
These are both family names.

So What do you think?

[i]onprinciple posting in [i]ottawa: Free beech laminate boards

I have various pieces of beech coloured laminate wood (and a glass door) left over from partially taking apart an entertainment unit.  There are about a dozen pieces in total.  The pieces are perfect for shelving (one or two boards could be cut in to a billy bookcase size) or to be sawed up for art.

The colour is the same as Ikea's beech pressed board.

Pick-up only.

If interested, please call Stacey at 613-862-3556.

[i]mum2hailey posting in [i]toronto: Found

Found a memory card in Stan Wadlow park on Canada Day. Do you know these people?
I've asked on Craigs List too.
The family has been to the Zoo, Niagara Falls and their son was in the back of a Toronto Police car. Photos date back to mid May.

[i]halfmilk posting in [i]baby_names:

Do you guys know any extensive baby naming sites that you can type in a couple of letters, and the search will find names that either have those letters at the beginning, middle or end?

I have two sounds for a baby name ringing in my head, and I want to see if I can find any names that match them, before I forget! :) Since I'm going insane and trying to have a big list of names to take to the hospital when baby is born, I figure the quicker I do this, the better! ;P

[i]fireabrokengun posting in [i]hipsterbookclub: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

A friend bought this book for me years ago and swore it was one of the best books he had ever read. I let it sit on my shelf for entirely too long and then I finally decided to read it. I must say, that I agree with him and am upset that I let this book sit for so long. I just finished up this book. I really enjoyed it and I found that it provoked a lot of thought on daily life as well as philosophy. I found it to be more of a book about 3 stories going on at the same time. I've added the link above for a review that I found to be clos to my opinion. I've added Lila to my book collection read. I read alot of philosophy books and found this one to be very insightful. In some places I got a little lost about the phaedrus character and it took me a minute to realize he was talking about himself. I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading the next one. I do think Im going to skip  and finish up 1984 and then I'll probably read Jitterbug Perfume then Lila.

Any else read this book? What do you think? If you have read this and really liked it, what are some other books that you like? I'd like to read more books like this one.

it's not what he did, it's how
he did it so when I say he stole my heart
I mean he stole
my heart as if he sidled up
to my car at night
smashed the window with a crowbar
jerked the door open
threw the newspaper, the ice scraper into the street
decapitated the bobblehead cat
that was nodding sweetly on the dash
and then ripped out the stereo--he
didn't just grab the faceplate--
he tore the whole box out
bent and scraped the area around it
didn't clip the end of the wires
just yanked them until they gave
and then ran away, black box, jaw set, breathing
heavy

so there's my car in the morning )

[i]aimeewins posting in [i]baby_names: Trendy Names

this book was published in 2006, so I would think this list would be fairly accurate... I'd say it's missing names more than it has names that don't belong.

[i]8bit_tanuki posting in [i]ottawa: Cellphone services...

I'm looking for a cellphone provider that runs at a cheaper rate to Telus.

Currently it's around $42/mth for the package I have. I would like to get it down to a lower price.

I would go to a pay as you go phone, but I'd rather not lose my current number.

So which companies are worth looking into? Rogers? Bell? Fido? What are your experiences with each company and who would you recommend to me?

Thanks in advance!

[i]eek_amelia: Freckles of Champions

Today Jocelyn and I woke up and shared our dreams that we had the night before. Then around three, she left and I went to Sophia's. We went to the tennis court and waited for Dylan, Luke, and Rumeal. They all came and we didn't really have an official game, but we played and it was fun. Rumeal really whips that ball around and I got hit on the arm, Sophia got hit in the eye (except, I think Luke did that), and then I almost got hit in the face.
After that, we all went out by the pool. Luke and I didn't swim, though. He threw a ball around for Sophia, Rumeal, and Dylan to catch. I laid on a chair on the opposite side of the pool where the sun actually was. I didn't get tan, just loads more freckles. You'd think I just couldn't get enough and then there I go and get some more.

Now, I am sitting in my room with the extra bed laid out and I feel weird. I always feel weird about being alone after being with people for a long period of time.

I'm on page 55 in Breakfast of Champions and this is my third book of his. I really just like the way he writes, is the thing.

Tomorrow, I am sleeping at my father's house. Then on Saturday we're going to Stacy's family's place hours away for fifth of July. I don't think I'm in the mood, but my father says I have to be. It will be SO hard to not be grumpy considering what arrived last night...

[i]marlew posting in [i]toronto: Where to find...

a cutlery organizer made for SMALL drawers. Unfortunately the drawers in my new kitchen are tiny... 8.5" wide on the inside x 18" long. I have checked out kitchen stuff plus and bed, bath & beyond. Still need to look at Walmart and Linen's & Things, but if anyone has actually SEEN small cutlery organizers somewhere in Toronto please let me know.

If they don't exist I just might have to make them and start selling them!!

Thanks

**EDIT** I have checked walmart, LNT and Lowes...the smallest I've seen is 9" with nothing on the edges that I might be able to shave off. The ones that clip together don't come less than 3" wide, so if anyone sees anything else please let me know.

[i]solagirl posting in [i]baby_names: Sibling question

I am an only child, and I have a sibling question.  There is a lot of discussion on here about sibsets. I often see things like this:

Ashley
Derzeray
Gymes

With comments like, "Wow, Ashley really lucked out."

Or this:

Abby
Adam
Andrew
Julia

With comments like, "I bet Julia really feels left out."

Lastly:

Rylan
Catherine
Marvin
Starla

"This sibset is SO mismatched."

I agree with these sort of statements most of the time, but I am wondering, all you people with sibs, where these issues when you were a kid? Were you envious of your sibling's names? Did you ever think to yourself, "It is a good thing we all have names that go well together." or "Wow, mom and dad sure are random when it comes to name picking!" Did any of these "issues" affect you as a child or adult?
